Can a notary from Washington State notarize in California?
Notarizations are subject to the state laws where the notarial act is being performed. Notary acts being performed in the state of California must be performed by a California notary public; one of the requirements to become a notary public in California is that you are a resident of California. Once you have your California notary commission, you are allowed to notarize documents anywhere within the state of California; the county where the document signer actually appeared before the notary should be the county noted in the notarial certificate wording.
